Construction Worker Suffers Head Injury in Fall

Fire Department says worker fell six feet and hit his head on concrete.

A 60-year-old construction worker was conscious after he fell from a six-foot platform and struck his head on concrete just after 8:30 a.m., according to the .

Assistant Fire Chief Steve Achilles said the worker was on top of a six-foot portable platform as part of a DiStefano Associates construction crew. Achilles said the man fell off the top of the platform and his head struck some concrete.

A worker with D.M. Burns Security of Dover who was also at the job site said the accident happened inside the former Shaw's supermarket which is being renovated into a new McKinnon's Meat Market at the Southgate Plaza on Lafayette Road, just south of Water Country.

Portsmouth firefighters and EMTs rushed to the scene, and Achilles said the man was conscious when he was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital for treatment. The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration was also notified, which is standard procedure when a workplace accident occurs.
