Five Things You Need to Know Today, June 7

Portsmouth Middle School 8th graders to graduate; Market Square Day Saturday; threat of showers still persists.

 

1. Today's weather: The National Weather Service is calling for a slight chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 67. Calm wind becoming east between 4 and 7 mph. On Thursday night, it will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 52. South wind at 5 mph becoming west.

2. Graduation dates: According to Portsmouth School Department officials, Portsmouth Middle School's 8th Grade Graduation is Thursday, June 7, at 6:30 p.m. Portsmouth High School graduation is Friday, June 8, at 5:30 p.m. The final day of school for students is June 14.

3. Market Square Day Saturday: Believe it or not, the 35th annual Market Square Day is this Saturday, June 9. This is always a great family event that features plenty of great food, live music, the lots of cool crafts for sale not to mention the 10k road race that kicks off the event. 

4. State filing period underway: According to the NH Secretary of State's office, the filing period for state offices opened Wednesday, June 6, at 8 a.m. and closes on June 15 at 5 p.m. Be sure to check back with Portsmouth Patch for the latest filings at City Hall for NH House candidates.

5. Service Credit Union Jet rides contest: Service Credit Union has announced they will hold a contest where eight people will have the opportunity to ride on a high performance jet before the Boston-Portsmouth Air Show on June 30 and July 1. The sweepstakes ends on June 21.
