Five Things You Need to Know Today, Nov. 29

Memorial Bridge Illumination Subcommittee meeting tonight; enter Patch Deck the House contest; a sunny, cold day in the forecast.

 

1. Today's weather: The National Weather Service is calling for a mostly sunny day, with a high near 40. West wind 8 to 14 mph. On Thursday night, it will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 23. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph

2. Memorial Bridge Illumination meeting: The Memorial Bridge Illumination Subcommittee will hold a public session at the Portsmouth Public Library on Thursday at 7 p.m. to give the public a chance to learn more about the project and their $80,000 fund-raising campaign. 

3. Free downtown parking: Don't forget, the city is offering free downtown parking until Jan. 2 for the holiday season. City residents and visitors can park in any meter space for two hours. Those who park for longer than the normally allotted time period will be subject to fines.

4. Enter Patch Deck the House contest: Portsmouth Patch is accepting submissions of photos and video from Portsmouth residents who believe they have the best holiday lights for the Patch Deck the House contest. The winner of the nationwide competition will receive $100,000 for their local school district and have their electricity bill paid for one month.

5. Seacoast Area Firefighters Toy Bank: The Seacoast Area Firefighters Toy Bank needs your help to give some children a Merry Christmas and any donation of new toys and gift cards is welcome.
