Jennifer Horn promised to take NH Republicans into a more forward, accepting and open-minded direction.

BEDFORD – Jennifer Horn's message was loud and clear.

For the GOP to find success and regain a strong foothold in both the New Hampshire and national political arenas, Republicans must change their thinking and their tact.

"We must put to rest forever the notion that the Republican party does not care, that we don't care about women, that we don't care about the elderly, that we don't care about children, that we don't care about the most vulnerable among us," said Horn. We must put to rest forever the notion that the Republican party is the party of old white guys. It is time to renew the GOP to the 'Great Opportunity Party.'"

Horn, speaking to roughly 450 of the Granite State's most influential conservatives Saturday afternoon, promised to embrace more liberty minded members of her party, such as Andrew Hemingway, the man she defeated to become chairman of the New Hampshire Republican Committee, and to do everything in her power to mend relations within the divided party.

In addition, Horn vowed to take a forward approach to the use all available tools and means at her party's disposal.

"We've got to upgrade our technology, we've got to be much more effective on social media, we've got to use technology more effectively than we have in the past," she said. "We've a lot of great voices in the party who will be part of that effort. Hopefully Mr. Hemingway will come forward and be part of that effort as well, but moving forward we will have all the tools in place to win elections."

It would be refreshing, if it were true.
But, quite a bit of time has passed since the GOP lost the last election, and there have been plenty of instances of leading republicans and conservative pundits continuing their tone-deaf disregard for huge swaths of the American people.
They still think their "demographic problem" can be solved by highlighting one or two minority candidates or leaders, while steadfastly supporting policies that keep all minorities down.
They still can't stop talking about rape, abortion, and contraception like old white men.
They still view gun control like old white men.
They still view the poor like old white men.
They still view voting rights and fair elections like old white men who can't win on ideas, so they will win by rigging the process.
They still view the world with the fear and suspicion unique to old white men.
Ms. Horn's views, as expressed on this very blog, demonstrate only a willingness to repackage the same old fear, misogyny, xenophobia and homophobia that has been a hallmark of republican politics for decades.

Who built this country, Blockhead? It wasn't minorities. They were, and are by definition, "minorities". It was those old, white men that you're so quick to criticize. If it weren't for the old, white men you wouldn't be living in the best country on this planet. But in all likelihood, you don't have enough gray matter upstairs to realize that.

Horn didn't seem to have a problem when it was happening...over and over again...now they lost, she has the courage to speak out? She wants to continue supporting the oil industry, she wants to privatize schools and offer vouchers that don't increase in value and become a school system for the poor. She loves Sarah Palin and thinks she's intelligent and articulate; she worked for the insurance giant Blue Cross Blue Shield...I"m thinking that defines her pretty well.....she's going to renew the Republican Party?

"offer vouchers that don't increase in value and become a school system for the poor. "

What a crock. School vouchers have been shown to work well in Milwaukee WI for the past 20+ years. They are also used in many European countries...

Here are some average citizens supporting school vouchers:

How do you expect disfunctional government to run and manage functional schools? When a blind man leads a blind man, do they not both fall off the cliff?

It is time for the American people to demand better. That demand will only be satisfied by the private sector eductation fostering competition. It is time for the cream to rise to the top.

Joe, public schools are a failure because Republicans don't want society to be educated or well paid. They like them in debt (health care and education), less educated (NH GOP lowered drop out age to 16, cut kindergarten and fund less for education, and want bigger classrooms), want families to have too many kids (contraceptive and anti-abortionists) so the people will be too poor and exausted to pay attention or have time to care when the Republicans deregulate and rob people blind. After dozens of years where developing nations out rate us on education, you choose to quote Milwaukee 's school system? ha ha.

In her inaugural address, one of NH's Democratic Gov. Maggie Hassan’s most applauded comments was: "Cutting state support for public education in half while lowering the tobacco tax two years ago was short-sighted. …We must begin to reverse course." Would you support raising the state tobacco tax back to its pre-2011 rate to help fund public education? Thank a republican for those cuts to education and tax breaks for the tobacco companies.

yes,
defund medicare, defund medicaid, destroy public school funding, defund planned parenthood, and don't forget to bust the unions. Continue to cut taxes for the rich and for businesses, as they depress wages and the tax burden gets shifted to struggling homeowners, the elderly, and those who can least afford it; and society's most vulnerable will beat a path to your GOP door.

How about you do your part by putting an end to this divisive language and start reaching out to your party leaders to do the same. I don't want to end "the bipartisan divide". I see *NO VALUE WHATSOEVER* in the current Teapublican politics advocated by the current Republican Party and their spokespersons (definitely *INCLUDING* Ms. Horn). I think government serves many useful purposes and does not need to be "drowned in a bathtub". I think all humans deserve equal rights and government can help facilitate that. And I think a government that serves the many is better than a government that serves the very, very few.

I want to see the Tea Party absolutely crushed, a sane Republican Party re-emerge to occupy the center right and I want to see the Democratic Party move back from center-right to the center-left where they belong.

Not surprised by the nastiness, name calling and ad hominem attacks here…that’s all these liberals have against Jennifer Horn and the NH GOP. NH Democrats are nervous and well they should be. Jennifer Horn is the very type of Republican that they most fear. She is an intelligent, hard-working, conservative, woman. She has been working tirelessly to confront our differences and move forward united to protect those things we all hold dear…freedom, individual liberty, personal responsibility, and the right to live unencumbered by government. Republicans believe in the goodness of man and our words and deeds are evidence of that. We are the party that works to defend freedom and we are the individuals who are most charitable, believing it is our individual responsibility, not government’s, to help the unfortunate and the needy. Read any paper and you’ll see Democrats lashing out in disparaging commentary as they have done here, meanwhile Republicans will be offering up solutions and protecting your freedoms. Look to Jennifer Horn to lead the NH GOP and our state in a positive direction.

We got more votes than needed, got many women and minorities elected, etc. Romney's many contradicting statements and insults, Fox News being busted for lies time and time again and kicked out of Canada because they don't follow basic broadcasting news rules and lie too much, and your suppressed GOP women who serve the old GOP white men who continuously attacked women's issues such as birth control, abortion and rape have distroyed your party. We feel like we are on top of the world after this past election! This could not have been a better year; not sure if you heard but we re-elected a black man and he won by a good margin even after all the GOP voting suppressing efforts and Carl Rove's attempts at election cheating! What reason would we have to be nervous? The Democrats didn't degrade any minorities or suppress any votes. You obviously haven't watched Fox News much if you think you are the most responsible party and help the unfortunate and the needy....helping would be entitlements and the Republican party won't stand for that. Fighting for abortion but once the children are born they look the other way. You fight for life, but not for universal health care....so the second they are born, you are OK if they die because getting health care would be an entitlement...doesn't make any sense.

At this point in the political process, with a lowlife in the White House and drunken Nancy Pelosi advising him, I think we can move past the petty little details such as potentially owing the government money. If we individuals could cheat others by printing money or by selling bonds to ourselves--read End the Fed by Ron Paul if you don't understand--Ms. Horn would be debt free. If owing money was a sign of moral decay, what do you say about the trillions owed by the federal government and its cronies? I think the Republicans are equally to blame for the continuing impoverishment of we peasants and that Ms. Horn needs to push self sufficiency and less government reliance. After all, if all of us humans had equal rights, you would have to move to Africa in order to let some Third World family take over your spacious home and excessive diet. Let us know when the disparity in wealth you so loudly declaim actually causes you to sacrifice your own plush life. Yes, even the poor in America are wealthy in comparison to most humans elsewhere. Even you, Atlant, must have done something worthwhile in the market, perhaps as a young child.

Did you ever learn to not be so literal and read for deeper meaning?

Let me make it easier for your limited comprehension as I am not really speaking about raising kids...
There are many negative comments made already on this very comment section by you and your ideological cohorts assailing Republicans for their beliefs with idiotic claims that the GOP is Anti-women, Anti-poor, and many other baseless and patently false claims.
We may have far different beliefs on how to treat problems, but it is ridiculous and mean spirited to suggest that our solutions are born from a negative opinion of a certain class and all of yours are born from your love of your fellow American.
I am from the school of learning to fish instead of taking a fish. I would prefer to teach to fish instead of giving a fish. Of course, there is exception and there will always be a class that needs a safety net.
My comment on your "parenting approach" is a metaphor (get it) for the manner in which I believe Democrats, in many cases, enslave the people they help by reinforcing their dependence on others; as opposed to a Republican approach of teaching and garnering independence through personal accountability.
BTW, I have no idea what you are talking about by mentioning another site, I am a Patch reader.

Simple enough; no false claims, just denial on your part.Did you know that the NH GOP tried to cut kindergarten, they lowered the drop out age to 16, gave tax breaks to tobacco and cut the funds to education in half? Defunding planned parenthood, a bill brought up by old white men who don't have a uterus or have a clue what it means to raise a child alone, give birth, carry a baby for nine months, understands complications that come with child birth and what it does to your body afterwards? @Sonia,
I am a man. I hope many might think a pretty caring and good man.
The idiotic remarks made buy a few fools does not a party define. They were ostracized by the party and rightfully so.
I am fine with personal choice regarding birth control but I don't think it should be either a) taxpayer funded nor mandated to be funded by some entity that has a track record of it being against their beliefs, such as the Catholic Church as an employer. That's not anti-woman, only religious freedom. If the employee doesn't like it, they can find employment elsewhere.
Abortion, again personal choice. Rowe V. Wade is with us forever and no GOP attempts would change that...those are basic scare tactics by the left. However, no abortion should be taxpayer funded. That would be illegal use of tax dollars. Planned Parenthood wouldn't be at risk of losing tax dollars if they just agreed to not use tax dollars for abortions...very simple.
There is nothing anti-woman there-every woman should have a right to here body but they shouldn't be using my tax dollars to do it!

No I haven't given birth but have been a son, brother, uncle, father and grandfather. Each of these has allowed me to participate and witness the birth process (every step of the way). I have helped family in the unenviable position of being in a one-parent circumstance.
And, I even come from a family that benefited from government assistance. I have been more fortunate in life yet I believe in safety nets; however, I abhor abuse of the system.
I pay a lot of money, some would argue too much, due to a progressive tax system. And I will continue to pay until the tax code is improved.
Of course, infrastructure is important but Pork (by both parties) should be eliminated. As for all those other things you mention, I personally pay for all of those things (libraries, postal service, etc...even unemployment, however, figure this. Because I own my company, I will never be able to collect the unemployment for which I pay for myself and all of the employees that I contribute for! Crazy, huh?

Don't you see the hypocrisy of the term "old, white guy?" It is offensive, ageist and racist all at the same time!

@ PC

Turn off Limbaugh. He's not doing you any favors.

Planned Parenthood is an outstanding organization. One which has PREVENTED more unwanted pregnancies than any hellfire minister ever has.

"...abortion services account for about 3 percent of Planned Parenthood’s activities. That’s less than cancer screening and prevention (16 percent), STD testing for both men and women (35 percent), and contraception (also 35 percent). About 80 percent of Planned Parenthood’s users are over age 20, and 75 percent have incomes below 150 percent of the poverty line. Planned Parenthood itself estimates it prevents more than 620,000 unintended pregnancies each year, and 220,000 abortions."

"...if Planned Parenthood loses funding, what will mainly happen is that cancer screenings and contraception and STD testing will become less available to poorer people. Folks with more money, of course, have many other ways to receive all these services, and tend to get them elsewhere already."

"The services Planned Parenthood provides save the federal government a lot of money. It’s somewhat cold to put it in these terms, but taxpayers end up bearing a lot of the expense for unintended pregnancies among people without the means to care for their children. The same goes for preventable cancers and sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV/AIDS."

What I do know, however, is that Planned parenthood derives over 51% of its income from its abortion services; that it has performed more than 5 1/2 million abortions; that it receives better than 46 percent of its income or more than 1.25 million taxpayer dollars per day in the form of federal grants and subsidies; that Planned Parenthood performs 70 abortions for every prenatal service it performs; that Planned Parenthood performs 390 abortions for every adoption referral it makes; and that the number of clinics it operates continues to drop dramatically as a result of public pressure. Planned Parenthood exists today primarily as an abortion clinic - a place where the consequences of irresponsible sexual behavior can be eliminated by the murder of an innocent, unborn child. Abortion may be legal in this country at the present time, but it does not have to be funded by the taxpayers. And I, along with millions of other taxpayers, do not want one cent of my tax dollars doled out to support the abortion related activities of Planned Parenthood or any other any organization. And don't kid yourself. The cancer screening and other non-abortion related services Planned Parenthood provide are readily available to low income people at a plethora of other facilities.

@ Sonia Prince ---

In 2003, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) rejected a Canadian Cable Telecommunications Association (CCTA) application to bring Fox News to Canada because Fox News U.S. and Global Television were planning to create Fox News Canada (a combination of U.S. and Canadian news). In 2004, after a Fox U.S. executive said there were no plans to create the combined channel, the CRTC approved an application to bring Fox News to Canada.[83]

Fox News Channel is currently offered by Access Communications, Bell TV, Cogeco, Eastlink, Manitoba Telecom Services, Rogers, SaskTel, Shaw Cable, Shaw Direct and Telus TV. An exception is Vidéotron, Canada's third-largest cable company, which has not added Fox News Channel to its lineup.

Busted again! But, you're usually wrong so I'm not surprised. But keep regurgitating those liberal lies...there's always some gullible bonehead out there who'll believe the garbage you spew.

Nice try Proud conservative....Canada’s Radio Act requires that “a licenser may not broadcast … It's illegal in Canada to broadcast any false or misleading news.” The provision has kept Fox News and right-wing talk radio out of Canada and helped make Canada a model for liberal democracy and freedom. As a result of that law, Canadians enjoy high quality news coverage, including the kind of foreign affairs and investigative journalism that flourished in this country before Ronald Reagan abolished the “Fairness Doctrine” in 1987.

Sonia - here's a link to the snopes page that emphatically says FOX is not banned from Canada. FOX does indeed broadcast in Canada and is carried by the cable providers I mentioned earlier. Why don't you stop regurgitating the liberal lies? If you knew how foolish you sound most of the time, you'd disappear from these boards out of sheer embarrassment. Trying to have a discussion with you is like trying to reason with a one year old that he shouldn't crap in his diaper.

They didn't change their braodcast rules to accommodate Fox; the CRTC declined to change their regulations that prohibit broadcasting "false and misleading news from television or radio news licensees that would endanger or likely to endanger the lives, health or safety of the public.Instead the CRTC had to "approve an application" to bring in the Fox News Channel digital television line ups. Not exactly a compliment for their news, only their series. Fox lies: Cropping quotes from President Obama,VP Biden & Gore so they appear out of context, using image-manipulation software to edit the appearance of reporters from The NY Times and using footage from other events during a report on the Nov 5 Tea Party rally in Washington, D.C.;the intention of Fox News was to make it appear as if a larger number of protesters attended the event. Also accused for the Dec 4 ediction of Fox and Friends program of misleading its viewers with a "questionable graphic" showing the result of a Rasmussen Reports climate-change poll totaling 120 percent. In November '09 Fox News Gregg Jarrett told viewers that a Sarah Palin book signing in Michingan had a massive turnout, showing footage of Palin with a large crowd.Jarrett stated that the former Rep. VP candidate is "continuing to draw huge crowds while she's promoting her new book",adding that the images being shown were live "pictures just coming in to us this morning" The video was actually taken from a 2008 McCain-Palin campaign rally.

Mike:

> Mr jan wants socialism, he just won't write it here.

If by "socialism" you mean the European model where people, merely by being citizens of their country, are entitled to education and health care, and a modicum of food and housing, why yes, then I *AM* for that sort of socialism and I'll be *HAPPY* to say it here!

I never understand why so many American "Christians" are opposed to all that stuff that their god-on-Earth called for and instead feel that their role is to further comfort the comfortable and afflict the afflicted.

The reason some are opposed to it is that they dont mind paying for it for themselves , but to have to pay for it for others gets kinda expensive.

But Christ never said: "Let the poor pay for it themselves!" Instead, he said things like:

(Luke 3:11) "If you have two coats," he replied, "give one to the poor. If you have extra food, give it away to those who are hungry."

Where do folks get this idea that they get a "get-out-of-Hell-free" card because "hav[ing] to pay it for others gets kinda expensive"?

N.B.: I'm *NOT* a Christian but I note that most of the people that I meet who think they're being cute/clever/appropriately-insulting by calling me a "socialist" do *CLAIM* to be Christians so it's for this reason why I wonder how they reconcile their scriptures with their behavior.

All you folks who think you have no obligation to pay *ANYTHING* to live in our society are nothing but greedy "takers"; I wish we could set up a place called Libertaria where you could go live out your dream.

How's that? More to your taste? ;-)

Don't be stupid. *NOBODY* in our society pays "no taxes". Romney's famously-fallacious "47%" number addressed people who pay no Federal Income Taxes. But even people in that 47% probably pay some set of:

o Property taxes (directly or indirectly through a landlord)
o Wage taxes (Social Security and Medicare)
o Sales taxes (including NH's "Rooms and Meal" tax)
o Gasoline taxes
o etc.

@Atlant - I'm simply showing the same empathy you show for those who pay in excess of 35% in total taxes on their gross income and yet, in your estimation and in that of the fools who listen to the demagogues of the left, they're not paying their "fair share."

BTW, wouldn't we all like to, as you say; "probably pay some set of:..." instead of always paying "full fare" and still find ourselves being seated "in coach".

Atlant..... there are people right here in New Hampshire living on welfare and food stamps who, because they are not working, pay no FICA or Medicare tax. They don't own a car, so they pay no personal property or gasoline tax. Welfare pays for their housing, their medical, their transportation, their clothing, their food, and their utilities. And there are a lot more people living off your money than you imagine.

Unfortunately, they all forget rather quickly.
Were it not for "old, white men", this would be just one more third world country!
And still the majority contributor in taxes to support the current confiscatory, entitlement burden!

Atlant, Christ never said give to those who are too damn lazy to do anything for themselves. I don't think most people object to helping those who are truly needy. But that's a small percentage of those sucking on the taxpayers' teat.

Okay, where's your exception in the Bible? Remember, it's got to be in the red letters that are (alleged to be) Christ's actual words, not some Paulian bashing of people who are less good than he thought he was.

Feel free to quote from any translation of the Bible.

@Atlant, you know, as I do that @Proud Conservative won't find anything close to that quote your baiting him to find. Yet I would point to the examples of social program abuse by those who do not need it and or fraudulantly obtain such generosity as reason for @Proud Conservative's feelings and statements on the matter; and the bible does speak to those who do such things.

"Proud Conservative is proud to stop people from getting contraception and abortion, which means he can offer to pay $300 000 per child's life that he saved because he's such a great guy.....oh and now our taxes go up because all these unwanted children are being born...I'm sure you love paying higher taxes right Proud Conservative...have you done the math yet on how many lives you've fought to save and pay for yet? Put your money where your mouth is and be "proud" of what you are accomplishing by fighting for the unborn."

Sonia - I gather that you're in favor of killing off people who drive up taxes more than they contribute to society. At what stage do you suggest we start euthanizing the sick. the disabled and the mentally ill? After all, if some of these folks are going to cost us big bucks to take care of, shouldn't we just rid ourselves of them - kinda like we kill unborn babies because they would cost us a lot more if they wind up on welfare. Perhaps doctors could be required under Obamacare to report those who they feel are a significant burden to taxpayers. Once a month the feds could round them all up, gas 'em in one of the domed stadiums, and dump them in a pit with other biodegradables.
