Library to Exhibit Photographer Nancy Grace Horton's Work

New Artist Curated Book Display series event will begin on June 1.

The Artist Curated Book Display series continues at the Portsmouth Public Library with an exhibit and display created by local photographer, Nancy Grace Horton.

Nancy Grace Horton holds an MFA in Visual Arts from the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University.   She is the recipient of numerous grants and awards most recently an Artists Entrepreneurial Grant from the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts.  She lives between Maine and New Hampshire and takes yearly visits to rural Mexico where she creates photo based cultural exchange art projects for kids.  She is known locally for her photo book “Portsmouth”.

In 2012 her work has been featured at the New York Photo Fest, was selected by Paul Kopeikin of Kopeikin Gallery for the Griffin Museum's 18th Juried Exhibition, and will be exhibited at the Photographic Resource Center in Boston in the fall.

Part of Horton’s artistic practice includes using photography for installations and mixed media. As the artist featured for the Artist Curated Book Display in June, she will exhibit, along with her resources from the library, a hand made book titled “Mad Women” and highlight one of the images from the series.

"It's been great preparing for this exhibition.” said Horton. “Having the chance to collaborate with  Jennifer Moore gives me the opportunity to be further stimulated by all the interesting resources at the library."

The program is an opportunity for artists to share their work with the public and to emphasize how the public library is a resource for creativity.

"It has been a pleasure finding resources for Nancy" said Jennifer Moore, library assistant and creator of the program.  “With each new artist I am allowed to discover gems in our collection.  I am thrilled that Nancy has agreed to be part of this series.  Her work is powerful and thought provoking.  I am delighted that library patrons will be given an opportunity to experience her work, and see what from the library collection Nancy finds inspiring.”

The display will go up on June 1, and will show for the entire month. Future artists will be announced in advance on the library's website and through its Facebook and Twitter pages.
