Portsmouth Police arrested a couple Wednesday night who stole a female shopper's wallet at Market Basket on Tuesday after they received information from people who recognized them from the store's video surveillance camera images.
Portsmouth Police Capt. Mike Schwartz said that Julia Marie Konchek, 21, of of 37 Hanover St. Apt 2 in Portsmouth and Kyle J. Roy, 25, of 1 Mission Road in Gardner, Mass., were arrested around 10 p.m.
Schwartz said both suspects were charged with robbery, held on cash bail and will be arraigned in Portsmouth Circuit Court on Thursday morning.
Police say that Konchek and Roy allegedly robbed a female shopper at Market Basket on Woodbury Avenue on Tuesday afternoon. According to Portsmouth Police Sgt. Jonathan Aubin, Konchek allegedy grabbed the shopper's purse and as the two women struggled, the purse's contents spilled onto the floor.
Police say that Roy then grabbed the female shopper's wallet and the two robbery suspects fled the store. The supermarket's video surveillance cameras managed to capture some clear images of the two suspects and after they were shown during WMUR's evening news broadcast, police began receiving calls from people who recognized the two robbery suspects.
Schwartz noted in the Portsmouth Police press release issued on Wednesday night that if anyone has any other information about this crime, they should contact Master Patrol Officer Chris Kiberd at (603)610-7504.
