Michelle Obama's Visit to UNH Cancelled Due to Hurricane
The decision was made after the university decided to close the campus on Monday and Tuesday.
Due to the closure of the University of New Hampshire campus on Monday and Tuesday and the potential impact of Hurricane Sandy on the Durham area, First Lady Michelle Obama's rally at UNH on Tuesday has been cancelled.
In a press release issued Friday evening, the Obama campaign said the schedule change "is being taken out of an abundance of caution to ensure that all local law enforcement and emergency management resources can stay focused on ensuring the safety of people who might be impacted by the storm."
UNH had announced earlier in the day that the Durham campus would be closed Monday and Tuesday in anticipation of Hurricane Sandy's impact on the area.
“We used all of the information available to make the best decision for the safety and well-being of our students, faculty, staff, and visitors,” said UNH President Mark Huddleston. “Losing days in the classroom is not something we ever like to do, but I encourage faculty to reach out to their students before the storm with any reading or assignments that can be done even if power is lost.”
