NH Tea Party Members Stage Anti-Obama Rally

More than 200 members of Rochester 912 Project members, Granite State Patriots and other Tea Party groups march down Main Street.

As promised members of the Rochester 912 Project, Granite State Patriots Liberty PAC and other groups staged a rally and march to voice their opposition to President Barack Obama before his arrival at Rochester Commons.

Several passing motorists honked their horns in approval as they drove past the rally staged in front of Citizens Bank. Just after 1 p.m., the marchers led by Jerry DeLemus, head of the Rochester 912 Project, made their way down Main Street chanting, 'Live free or die, live free or die!" and "Hey ho, Hey ho, Obama must go!"

Their goal was to get as far as Rochester Commons where the President was scheduled to speak at 4:30 p.m. following his visit to Windham High School on Saturday morning. But they were stopped by Rochester Police in front of the Walgreen's pharmacy and told to turn around and rally at the intersection of Columbus and Main streets.

As far as DeLemus and other members of the group were concerned, they still made their voices heard.

"I'm not crazy about Romney, personally," said DeLemus. "But I think he (Obama) is going to bankrupt our country."

DeLemus said Obama has proven to be a very divisive President who has fueled the fires of class and racial warfare to serve his political ends. "I really thought as a nation we were beyond that," he said.

DeLemus said he wishes Republican Presidential frontrunner Mitt Romney and his Vice Presidential running mate Paul Ryan would reach out to the NH Tea Party groups, but they have not done that.

Erol Yurtseven of Rochester held up his sign that read "Socialism" to go with his T-shirt of the former Chinese leader Mao Se Tung. "Socialism is a cancer that feeds on itself," is how he described President Obama's policies such as the Affordable Care Act.

Jane Cormier of Alton who is running for the NH House in District 8 in Belknap County said she came out to support the Tea Party members because she also doesn't favor President Obama's policies. "I'm really concerned that we are losing our personal and individual freedoms in this country," she said.

When Rochester Police forced the rally marchers to turn around well before they reached Rochester Commons, DeLemus said sarcastically, "That's tolerance and diversity and freedom of speech and all of the things you hear about."

According to WMUR, some of the Portsmouth protesters *WERE* Occupy so the apparent answer to your question is "yes".

Several could have been nearly 50, it could have been 4. Think before you type Atlant.

Capitalist: Someone who, if given the means and opportunity, would take control of the global atmospheric oxygen supply … and then charge humanity usage fees for breathing.

Reality check -- most Americans (including the POTUS) are neither pure capitalists nor pure socialists, but rather a hybrid of the two.

The notion that the United States is or strives to be a purely capitalist society is a naive fallacy. There have been elements of socialism in our socio-economic structure ever since the Lincoln Administration (progressive income tax), more were incorporated during the FDR Administration (components of the New Deal), again during the Eisenhower Administration (the Interstate Highway System), and again in the 1960s (Medicare).

Since when is restoring the progressive income tax to pre-GWB levels a "socialist" policy? I suppose it makes a great GOP news sound bite and talking point to stir up the conservative base, but in terms of substance it is little more than cotton candy for the mind.

Complaining about "socialism"? Does that mean you plan to refuse Medicare when you become eligible? Will you encourage your elderly loved ones to do likewise? Or do these programs only promote socialism when provided to someone whose political views differ from from your own.

Medicare and Social Security are not entitlement programs. They are health and retirement benefit programs which workers pay premiums for.

At least half of that group is of an age to collect Social Security and Medicare. I wonder how many have refused to collect because of their principles?

I'm not really sure that reasoned, factual responses make much difference to many neo-conned Tea-Partiers. They seem to be intractable. Like they simply believe something in their guts and no kind of fancy facts and details is going to sway them. So Obama is a "socialist", a "fascist", a liar, thief, etc. I think the same % of the country who denounce him in such demonistic terms are the same % who loved G.W. Bush with all their hearts, and can remember him doing no wrong. Or very little. Truth to tell, Obama's been a remarkably centrist and pragmatic POTUS; he's been enigmatic and charismatic; world opinion is again in our favor -- though not world opinion of this US Congress. So the Republican leadership has helped stoke the neo-conned by blocking simple governance; and the neo-conned blame Obama. And they play to win, trying to deny the vote to (coincidentally) the same part of our population that are most egregiously effected by their policies -- it's called "SOCIAL SECURITY" for a reason: a civilized society takes care of its own, knowing that some simply cannot take care of themselves AND that we are all greater for it. Anyone remember Jesus? I thought this was a Christian country...What it REALLY is, is mirrored around the world: fundamentalists trying to hi-jack our lives. What we need is an AMERICAN spring!

Where do these tea baggers get this stuff? What freedoms have Obama taken away?If anything,he has expanded freedoms more than any recent President. He has openly supported same sex marriage, legal access to contraception, protection for children who were born in this country to illegal immigrants from deportation, equal pay for women.I'd like to hear them name one freedom that he's taken away. These are certainly freedoms that right wingers hate, but they are freedoms just the same. The only possible infringement of freedom they could possibly be referring to is the healthcare mandate. An idea by the way, that right wing conservative think tanks and politicians created and favored until Obama and democrats adopted it.It was the bedrock conservative idea that everyone should pull their own weight when it comes to paying for their healthcare, instead of everyone else having to pay for them.Everyone is required by law in most states to buy car insurance for basically the same reason, but I don't hear them calling their governors fascists or socialists.I think we all know why these ridiculous charges are spewed at this President. It's the one reason that they would never admit in front of a microphone or camera, but they know what it is.Most try to camouflage their hatred with imagined conspiracy theories and trumped up historical comparisons. They're really not fooling anyone.

You are only required to buy auto insurance if you drive. You have a choice there. With Obamacare, you have no choice - if you're alive, you're required to buy health insurance. Big difference.

If anyone cares, I'm a New Hampshire resident who has been lucky enough to get into the Affordable Care Act's pre-existing condition pool. If it wasn't for that access to medical care, I might not be here. But, judging from the hate generated by the group in the article, I'm sure they don't care one way or the other. In their spare time they should read about socialism and what it really is.

You should have bought health insurance BEFORE you became one of those with a preexisting condition. Getting health insurance with a preexisting condition is like buying homeowners insurance after your house burns down. If you get by without insurance, you should be prepared the consequences.tto pay

Are you freaking serious? Republican friend of mine, on his wifes insurance cause it was the better deal. Got lukemia, wife cheated on him, had to stay with wife because he would die without her insurance. Now, thanks to Obama Cares, he can leave an unhappy marriage, and get coverage. This is just one case, but your theory is screwey to the max. Not to mention you were just complaining above that is sucks to be forced to buy insurance, and now you are saying it's stupid if you don't get insurance? Which is it?

Hey Nikki - the government doesn't make you buy, nor does it pay for your homeowners, renters, life or auto insurance. It shouldn't be doing any of those things with respect to health insurance either. You want it - you buy it. If you decide not to, you take the risk and face the consequences.

The Colorado Springs police chief begged the Obama campaign not to come to their town, as the city had no resources to protect him, and didn't need the extra burden ....but Obama came anyway.

Colorado had to suspend flights of the fire fighting air-tankers because the no air traffic could be in his vicinity, so the firefighting planes had to stop. Obama spent hundreds of thousands of taxpayers’ dollars to fly in Air Force One to make a campaign stop in the middle of a tremendous fire, totally disrupting the firefighting and police efforts, and causing millions more in damage to forests and homes.. and people’s lives.

I Hope we Change presidents come January.
