Old Time Radio 'A Christmas Carol' to be Performed

Program will be broadcast live from Stone Church in Newmarket on Dec. 21 to benefit new Arts and Culture Center in Newmarket Mills.

Experience the magic of old time radio as Charles
Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” is staged one night only, Wednesday,
December 21st at 7:30pm at The Stone Church Music Club.

Longtime radio and television personality Mike Pomp leads a lively cast in the role
of Ebenezer Scrooge. Admission is $15 with all proceeds to benefit the
Newmarket Millspace, an upcoming center for arts, culture and heritage
in the renovated Newmarket Mills.

According to director John Herman, the feel of a golden age radio
broadcast will be created with the help of sound effects performed
live in front of the audience. As in the era of old time radio, a
table of bells, shoes, and other objects will be orchestrated to bring
the Victorian era tale to life.

Herman, also vice chair of the committee that is overseeing the
development of the center, adds that the holiday show is not just
entertainment. “It is a chance for the community to make a cultural
impact. Every dollar raised brings us closer to realizing the civic
space. Plans for the Millspace include a theater, gallery, conference
room, and more, so shows like this could become a regular feature in
the community.”
