Here's a list of the top earners from Portsmouth after the state retirement system released the top 500 in New Hampshire.

Former Portsmouth Police Chief Michael J. Magnant had the third highest gross of the top 500 state pension beneficiaries in 2010, according to the New Hampshire Retirement System. The list includes the Portsmouth City Council's new assistant mayor, Bob Lister, a former superintendent of schools.

The state list is data for those who received a benefit for the entire 12-month period. The "employer" field is categorized with the municipality, regardless of whether the annuitant is the actual retiree or their beneficiary.
