MANCHESTER, NH – The NH Coalition to End Homelessness (NHCEH) has announced the availability of its 2014 “Hope Starts Here” Scholarship application.  For the 2014 application cycle, educational scholarships between $500 and $2000 will be awarded.  The scholarship fund was established to award students currently living in New Hampshire who have experienced homelessness during their school career, have demonstrated academic achievement, and have the desire to continue their education beyond high school.

The educational scholarship can be used to help defray the costs of college or post-secondary vocational training program tuition, fees, books, prep courses, or other educational expenses.  The deadline to apply is May 1, 2014.

“This scholarship provides help and hope for homeless students pursuing higher education,” said Cathy Kuhn, Ph.D., director of the NHCEH.  “By removing some of the financial barriers, we can help students continue to access affordable post-secondary education.”

Since the scholarship’s inception in 2009, over $8,700 has been provided to homeless students in New Hampshire to offset the costs of higher education.

A committee representing educators, policymakers, homeless providers, businesses, and other community members will review the applications and make recommendations to the NHCEH Board of Directors, who will make the final selection and notify the recipient(s) of the award.

To apply, students must complete the application and submit all required supplemental materials.  The application and instructions are available for download at www.nhceh.org/scholarship
