Portsmouth Air Show Grounded Again

Sequestration played a factor in the decision.

For the second straight year, there will be no Boston-Portsmouth Air Show.

Organizers decided to cancel the show after flight demonstration squads like the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds couldn't commit to appear. Last year, in response to automatic federal budget cuts, both groups canceled many of their shows, leading to the cancellation of the 2013 Portsmouth air show. This year, the teams are doing about 60 percent of their normal schedule, according to Ron Snow, a spokesman for the Brain Injury Association of New Hampshire. The air show is organized that group and the Daniel Webster Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

The air show has been held at the Portsmouth International Airport at Pease in the summer. In 2012, there were 60,000 attendees, according to Snow.

While there won't be an air show this year, Snow said organizers are trying to set up another big event at Pease this summer. Also, organizers will try to bring the air show back in 2015, he said.

"Our desire is to bring an air show back to the community," Snow said.
