Allegiant: Gov't Shutdown Delays Pease Service

Pease is set to receive a passenger airliner for the first time since 2008.

Allegiant, which was scheduled to start passenger airline service out of the Portsmouth International Airport at Pease on Friday, has rerouted those flights to Manchester-Boston Regional Airport.

The budget airline said the government shutdown forced it to delay the launch of its Pease service.

"The furlough of nonessential personnel at TSA stalled the installation of equipment necessary for passenger screening at (the airport)," the company said in a statement. "Since the return of federal employees on Oct. 17 ... Allegiant, Portsmouth International Airport and TSA have worked round-the-clock in an attempt to ready the airport for commercial service at Pease by the original start date."

Allegiant said it could take up to 10 days for its Pease service to start.

Pease has been without a passenger airliner since 2008. Allegiant previously served Pease from 2005 to 2007.
