Group Fundraising for Legal Battle Over Strawbery Banke Ice Rink

A group is challenging the plan in court.

Organizers of a gofundme.com campaign are trying to raise $25,000 for legal fees to defend a proposed ice rink at Strawbery Banke.

The rink would cost an estimated $300,000 and be used for skating lessons and pickup pond hockey, supporters said.

A group of South End residents filed a legal petition against the plan, arguing the noise and lights would negatively impact their quality of life.

So far, the fundraising campaign has raised $4,500.

"For the project to move forward we need to raise money to pay for the legal fees incurred defending the plan," a note on the campaign site reads.
