Pet Quarters Closing Wednesday

The discount pet food and pet supply will close its location at The Crossing at Fox Run after 14 years, causing 10 employees to lose their jobs.

In what could be a blow to Portsmouth area pet owners, Pet Quarters will close it doors at The Crossing at Fox Run in Newington on Wednesday.

The store will be open on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. before 10 full- and part time employees find themselves without a job.

On Monday afternoon, store employees were busy selling what little remained of their inventory, which consists of pet food, pet toys and pet supplies.

The store is closing after 14 years. When asked if any of the store employees would transfer to other Pet Quarters stores located in North Conway or Wells, Bangor, Scarborough, Brunwick, Falmouth, Waterville, Rockland or Windham, Maine, the employee could not say.

Attempts to reach Pet Quarters officials at the company's corporate headquarters in Westbrook, Maine on Monday afternoon were unsuccessful.
