RiverRun Bookstore to Open New Location

The Portsmouth bookstore was recently saved from going out of business.

RiverRun Bookstore is opening a new location in the Seacoast.

Owner Tom Holbrook said he's establishing a second location in Kittery, Maine.

"We care about our Maine customers," Holbrook said in a blog post on his store website. "We loooovvve Portsmouth, but we understand that between bridge repair, parking, and general hubub, it can be hard to shop here sometimes."

The new location will be in the Kittery Foreside near one of the entrances to the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

Holbrook said his new store will be small, "about the size of your living room." It will sell new and used books.

The Juicery, also based in Portsmouth, is also opening a new location in the Foreside in the same building as the new RiverRun.

A bunch of new restaurants and shops have opened in the Foreside area in recent years, including The Black Birch and Rudders Public House.

"As downtown Kittery grows and becomes an exciting place to visit, we are excited to be a part of that," Holbrook said.

He almost closed RiverRun in 2011 due to financial problems. About a dozen members of the community came on as part-owners, and many others gave donations that allowed Holbrook to keep the store open.
