Seacoast Chef Honored as 'Rising Star'

It's the second big honor in the past month for Evan Hennessey.

Chef Evan Hennessey of Stages at One Washington in Dover has done it again.

Hennessey, 37, has been named a 2014 Coastal New England Rising Star by StarChefs.com, a magazine and website for culinary insiders. Other winners from the area include Chef Patrick Soucy of Ceia Kitchen & Bar in Newburyport, MA and Chef Justin Walker of Earth at Hidden Pond in Kennebunkport, ME. A Tasting Gala and Awards Ceremony will be held on April 15 at the Providence Biltmore Hotel in Providence, RI.

"Thank you so much!" Hennessey Tweeted on Wednesday. "Honored and humbled to be among these great chefs."

Last month, Hennessey was named a semifinalist for Best Chef: Northeast by the James Beard Foundation. The winner will be announced at the 2014 James Beard Awards in New York City on May 2 and 5.

Hennessey has worked as a chef at several Portsmouth restaurants, including 43 Degrees North, The Dunaway Restaurant and the 100 Club. He also cooked at Moxy in Portsmouth last summer as part of the restaurant's "No Menu Mondays."
