TV Shoot at Lexie's Joint

"Chowdown Countdown" episode featuring Portsmouth restaurant to air later this winter.

Lexie's Joint will soon have a national audience after a Travel Channel crew visited the eatery on Thursday.

"Chowdown Countdown" producer Dan Siegel of Sharp Entertainment in New York said they already know that Portsmouth is a great dining destination and their research to locate more incredible eats here brought them to Lexie's.

"Lexie's food is unbelievable," Siegel said.

When Lexie's opened for business on Thursday, a typically large lunch crowd arrived and the staff was busy preparing their gourmet burgers as the Travel Channel producers set up.

As their customers enjoyed their lunches, co-owner Lexie Wile taped an interview for the show, which Siegel said should air in either February or March.

During the taping, Wile said Lexie's enjoys a strong following in Portsmouth because of the quality of the food, the affordability and the atmosphere.

"We put a lot of love into our food," she said.

Wile also said her favorite burger on the menu is the Instant Classic, but she would not divulge any details about the ingredients of their "Hush Hush" sauce.

Wile said she also loves working with co-owner and husband Chef KC Cargill, who decided to name the restaurant after her "because Lexie's Joint sounded better than anything else."

"We're excited," said Wile when asked how she and Cargill feel about being featured on the Travel Channel show. Wile said the show's producers contacted them about three weeks ago. "I would like to think that it will help us keep expanding," she added.

Lexie's has a seasonal business in Newington and will soon open a new eatery in Newburyport, Mass., where Wile and Cargill are from.

Wile said the restaurant has previously been featured on the NECN shows "TV Diner" and the "Phantom Gourmet" and they saw a great response. She is hoping Lexie's will get an even bigger lift from the Travel Channel show, which features restaurants across the country that serve unique fare.
