GREENLAND - Riverworks Printing constantly seeks to improve upon itself, even as they've become one of the top businesses in their field. As an eco-driven large format printing company, part of that growth includes using the latest in green technology and eco-friendly, biodegradable materials to create print products for homes and businesses.
To keep up with their growing business demands, Riverworks recently added another eco-solvent printer. The printer is an updated model of the Color Painter Seiko Colorpainter V-64s, the first printer employed by Riverworks. The new Seiko Colorpainter W-64s printer has an increased speed and maintains a rich color density to create high resolution images. Using only IX inks, Riverworks ensures there are no hazardous air pollutants and minimal odor during the printing process.
“As a small business of only two people, the new printer has really eased the production process, making larger projects less stressful,” reflects Danis Chamberlin, Print Manager.

Experimenting with modern media to make their products as green and versatile as possible, Jeff Cutter, Riverwork's Founder, and Chamberlin, go to great lengths to manufacture their products void of harsh chemicals or toxins. Their top selling product, the Phototex Wall Sticker, successfully passed the European Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemical Substances (REACH) test, currently the strictest law regulating chemical use and their effects on humans and the environment.
“It is a polyester-based material and will biodegrade in 60 years, beating traditional vinyl materials by a long shot. We can print any art or photo on it as long as the resolution is high enough," said Chamberlin. "Typically a two megabyte file will produce a great 12x18 inch print."

Originally created to showcase Cutter's favorite pastime, fly-fishing, the fully biodegradable, large adhesive Phototex poster is more durable than most traditional posters. The Phthalates-free patented adhesive leaves no sticky residue on surfaces and is interchangeable.
"Being non-toxic, the eco-fabric wall decals are a great choice for not only kids' rooms, but also any other room in your house," said Chamberlin.
Riverworks' commitment to sustainability is one of the reasons they partnered with the Green Alliance, a locally driven union passionate about bringing together environmentally-friendly businesses while also providing its members with discounts on green products and services.
Recently, Riverworks completed a fleet graphics job for Seacoast United, the Hampton based sporting club. As the official printer for Seacoast United, the club reached out to Chamberlin, who had previously created advertising media for the club, to design their vehicles. Using an adhesive vinyl, printed with eco-solvent inks and laminated for longevity, the UV-resistant full-vehicle wraps feature the Seacoast United logo and sponsors, including Bill Dube Ford who used the vehicles in a recent commercial campaign. The new eco-solvent printers were able to complete the large-scale order with ease.
The vehicles feature Seacoast United's contact information displayed across the vehicles for advertising purposes. As Nike is one of Seacoast United’s biggest supporters, the vehicles also feature a large, iconic, Nike swoosh symbol. Chamberlin included vinyl media in the vehicles' design and created each sponsor logo separately, allowing for the removal of individual logos in the event of future sponsorship changes.
