Author Joyce Maynard received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the New Hampshire Film Festival's opening ceremonies on Friday night.
Maynard wrote the best selling novel, "Labor Day," that was made into the movie starting Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin that was screened following the ceremony. The film held a premiere screening of "Labor Day" from Paramount Pictures.
"I've been to the Telluride and Toronto film festivals, but this for me is the big night," Maynard said.
She said the novel came to her in a dream in 2008.
She joked that Winslet couldn't be here this evening "because she couldn't find a parking space. Josh is still circling around."
"As good as the movie is, it is always not as good as the book," Maynard said.
She said that while the movie was filmed in two beautiful Massachusetts towns, but they are not New Hampshire.
Maynard, who grew up in New Hampshire, also held a Q & A session following the movie at the Music Hall.
