Dan Innis, of Portsmouth, Seeks to Unseat Carol Shea-Porter

Innis and former Congressman Frank Guinta have announced bids for the Republican nomination for the 1st District Congressional seat now held by Carol Shea-Porter.

Portsmouth's Dan Innis, the former head of University of New Hampshire's business school and owner of the Ale House Inn on Bow Street, will run for Congress.

Innis announced his run in a YouTube video posted Tuesday night.

Innis, a Republican, will run for the 1st District Congressional seat now held by Carol Shea-Porter.

Frank Guinta is the only other GOP candidate to announce a run for Shea-Porter's seat so far.

"The American Dream is at risk," Innis said in a statement. "It is with understandable concern that we all watch events unfold in our nation's capitol. Will the president and Congress work together to solve the problems that are threatening our future?  If the past few years are any guide, compromise will be hard to achieve."

"But I believe in our nation and I am confident that with the right leadership in Washington we can see our way to a bright future."

New Hampshire Democratic Party Communications Director Harrell Kirstein released the following statement about Innis' candidacy:

"With Dan Innis in the race, New Hampshire Republican primary voters will choose between a disgraced former Congressman and Tea-Party extremist in Frank Guinta, or a corporate puppet more concerned with Wall Street profits than working families in Dan Innis. Innis defended multi-millionaire corporate buyout specialists paying lower taxes than middle class families.

"Innis claims to be a new kind of Republican, but the only thing new about him is his membership in the New Hampshire Republican Party. The truth is that Granite Staters can’t trust Dan Innis. He desperately wants to be a D.C. insider and will say anything to get there."
