New Sarah Long Bridge Design Revealed

The 73-year-old bridge, connecting Portsmouth to Kittery, Maine, is set to be replaced.

Transportation officials on Wednesday revealed the design of the new Sarah Long Bridge.

The bridge, which connects Portsmouth to Kittery, Maine, is 73 years old. It's No. 1 on New Hampshire's "red list" of bridges that need to be replaced.

The new Sarah Long Bridge will cost more than $170 million. Construction is set to begin in the fall of 2014.

The Maine Department of Transportation on Wednesday released renderings of the new bridge. The team of FIGG/Hardesty & Hanover put together the design. Find more photos of the design here.
