ENH Power to Host Big Brothers Big Sisters Holiday Social

PORTSMOUTH — In this season of giving, two local organizations dedicated to good deeds are collaborating to help children in need.

ENH Power is hosting the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Seacoast Holiday Social, which takes place from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5, at the Green Alliance Atrium, 75 Congress Street, Suite 304, Portsmouth. ENH Power approached Big Brothers Big Sisters with the idea of hosting a holiday event that would help the greater community, and the folks at BBBS are appreciative.

“The event not only creates visibility for potential BBBS volunteers but also gives people the opportunity to save on their electricity bill while supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters financially,” says BBBS Executive Director Stacy Kramer.

Attendees who bring an item from the Big Brothers Big Sisters wish list will be entered into a raffle to receive free electricity —donated by ENH Power — for one year. Wish list items include bedding, warm clothes, toys, gift cards, hygiene and stocking stuffers, and non-perishable food items. “Every year we use items from the wish list to make food, gift, and hygiene baskets for local families in desperate need during the holiday season,” Kramer says.

Also, ENH Power is making a special event offer to attendees who bring their electricity bill to the event: a special coal-free 24-month electricity rate — currently 8.65 cents per kilowatt hour — for the price of our standard 12-month offer of 7.89 cents/Kwh. And when attendees enroll, ENH Power will donate $5 dollars to Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Seacoast on their behalf.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is dedicated to helping kids and teens facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported 1-to-1 relationships with adults that change the children’s lives for the better, forever. Adult mentors— or “Bigs” — expand the perspective of children ranging in age from 6 thru 17 years old — or “Littles” — by encouraging them to look beyond their situation to the outside world of possibilities and see that bigger and better things are attainable.

BBBS has several programs. Its community-based mentoring program connects Bigs and Littles to share fun activities, stories, and a little bit of themselves. Volunteer mentors typically say that mentoring a child is one of the most rewarding and enjoyable things they will ever do, four hours a month that can change a young person's life.

ENH Power is a unique New England electricity supplier with its office and customer-service operation in Auburn, Maine. Rather than being beholden to volatile markets and large public utilities, ENH power gives its customers — be they homeowners or businesses — the inside track to the most competitive prices through a fixed rate plan.

But ENH also provides power of a different kind, one that strengthens the causes and communities that make New Hampshire what it is. Here in the Granite State, ENH Power not only works with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Seacoast, but it also collaborates with a growing contingent of Community Partners, helping to raise both money and awareness for range of causes — from school departments and towns to church committees to animal welfare agencies. Through its Power to Help Fund, ENH Power leverages its customers’ electricity purchases to help individuals, organizations, and municipalities broaden the impact of their charitable initiatives.

“ENH Power’s core mission is to give back by helping to support families and education in its New England community, through its Community Partnership Power to Help Program,” says ENH Power’s Julie Lapham. “As the local outreach coordinator, I am here to help our non-profit partners utilize our fundraising programs and to educate their supporters about participation.”

What’s more, ENH has a green option for those of us who keep the environment close at heart.  For a slightly higher fee, ENH Power will supply customers with coal-free power. Burning coal is a huge contributor to greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, and coal-free-power customers can feel better about their electricity consumption knowing that they are drastically reducing their personal effect on the environment.

ENH Power and Big Brothers Big Sister of the Greater Seacoast are Business Partners of the Green Alliance. The GA is a union of local sustainable businesses promoting environmentally sound business practices and a green co-op offering discounted green products and services to its members.
