Portsmouth Man to Paddle 12 Miles to Isles of Shoals

Chris Carragher hopes to raise $10,000 and awareness for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Seacoast.

A Portsmouth man plans to paddle board to the Isles of Shoals and back on Saturday as part of his quest to raise $10,000 for the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Seacoast.

Chris Carragher, 40, has been training for his 12-mile paddle board trip and it will take him more than five hours to complete. He plans to set out from either Odiorne State Park boat launch in Rye at 5:30 a.m. and his goal is to arrive at the Seacoast Science Center by 12 noon. He will wear a life vest and there will also be a support boat that will follow him for his safety.

"I feel like the whole summer will be summed up in five hours," Carragher said on Friday morning.

Carragher announced in July he decided to paddle board to the Isles and Shoals and back later this summer to raise money and awareness for "Stand Up 4 Littles."

Carragher said he wants to raise money for the group after he and his wife, Diane, joined the group as mentor parents earlier this year.

“I would love to see us raise $10,000,” he said in July. But he hopes to raise even more awareness about the group and get people to join the group to help the kids out there.

Carragher said he has raised $3,500 so far and he hopes to meet his $10,000 goal after he completes his paddle board trip. People who wish to make donations can visit www.standup4littles.com.
