Find Your Farmer at CSA Days at the Winter Farmers' Market!
We might be in the grips of a cold winter, but Seacoast Eat Local is excited to help us all think Spring with their annual CSA days at the Winter Farmers’ Markets in February. The CSA day markets will be at Exeter High School on Saturday, February 8th and at Wentworth Greenhouses in Rollinsford on Saturday, February 22nd.
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a style of agriculture shaped by the direct link between food producers and consumers. Through upfront payments or ‘share’ purchases, a consumer provides early season capital while the farm is able to plan and plant for a known market, offering fresh produce at allotted intervals throughout the season. The continued popularity and adoption of Community Supported Agriculture has led to the term ‘CSA’ being used to describe the shares purchased and the farms operating a CSA program. With growing interest and participation, CSA programs have significantly expanded and diversified in the past several years.
The CSA events held at the upcoming SEL February Farmers’ Markets will help you navigate the world of Community Supported Agriculture in 2014. Head to the market to learn about the many styles offered including traditional boxed shares, credit based shares, and local delivery or on farm pick-up options. Seacoast Eat Local has brought together farms offering spring/summer, fall or year round CSA options from conventional, organic and even horse powered farms in New Hampshire and Maine! These assorted CSA offerings include vegetable or meat shares with add-ons available for eggs, dairy and even fresh baked bread.
