GateWay, which opened in October 2012, provides people of all levels with a center for practicing and exploring the ancient arts of taiji (tai chi), qigong (chee kung) and yoga. The founder, Bill Buckley, envisioned a welcoming, judgment-free atmosphere, where students could enjoy classes, seminars and demonstrations. With two large studios that are sunlight and glowing, and a constant stream of engaging classes, Buckley’s dream has surely been met.

GateWay is a business partner with the Green Alliance, a union of local sustainable businesses promoting environmentally sound business practices and a green co-op offering discounted green products and services to its members.

Taiji, qigong, and yoga have been taught and practiced by many people throughout the world. However, while millions are reaping the benefits from such exercises, millions are not. This is where GateWay comes into the picture. Buckley and other expert practitioners, are bringing the ancient arts to the area; providing lessons, classes, and opportunities for those who want change, rejuvenation, and relaxation.

The open house was a celebration of the arts, as students were able to learn from and experience classes ranging from yoga stretch and yoga balance, taught by Lily Sibley, to taiji sword demonstrations three of Buckley’s students conducted. The event even offered a mini-class in the five animal sports qigong, a group of ancient medical qigong exercises that are designed to bring healing energy to internal organs.

“Open house attendees also participated in a short introduction to the Tai Chi for Better Balance curriculum, which has been proved to significantly improve balance and decrease falls,” Buckley said, recounting the event.

It’s clear that GateWay’s classes are wide in scope, and offer many opportunities to gain balance, mindfulness and physicality. Those in search for anyone of these, will surely find it at the GateWay studio.
