Co-Founder of Portsmouth Black Heritage Trail Dies at 71

Sandra Lee was born in Portsmouth.

Sandra Lee, a co-founder of the Portsmouth Black Heritage Trail, died Oct. 21 at the age of 71.

Lee was born in Portsmouth in 1942 and graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1960.

She worked at the Strafford County Registry of Deeds and was a missionary of the New Hope Baptist Church, according to her obituary.

The heritage trail she helped create takes visitors on a tour of where the city's black residents lived, worked, prayed, and celebrated more than 300 years ago.
