Man Arrested After Police Chase in NH, Mass

NH State Police said the pursuit began on Route 101 in Brentwood and ended on I-95 in Newburyport, Mass.

A Massachusetts man was arrested and charged with reckless driving, reckless conduct and disobeying a police officer after a chase that began in New Hampshire and ended with the driver crashing on Interstate 95 in Newburyport, Mass.

New Hampshire State Police said Nicholas F. Cammann, 32, of Aquinnah, Mass., may face additional charges in the case.

State Troopers were dispatched to a report of an erratic driver in a gold Pontiac Grand Am heading east on Route 101 at around 9:50 a.m. on July 8. Other drivers reported the operator was speeding and passing in the breakdown lane. A trooper near Exit 8 in Brentwood observed the reckless driving and tried to stop the car, but the driver kept going and the pursuit began, according to State Police Troop A.

Police said the driver increased his speed and continued to pass vehicles in the breakdown lane. The trooper ended the pursuit and notified police in the area of Route 101 and I-95 in Hampton, where Trooper Alex Davis deployed "stop sticks" in an attempt to stop the vehicle. Police said the driver was able to elude the sticks and proceeded south on the interstate.

Police said the driver was reported to have pulled into the New Hampshire State Liquor store in Hampton and fled. Several 911 calls reported the driver was "frantically" going from car to car in the parking lot in an attempt to steal a car, according to police.
