The following is from Portsmouth police:
On Friday, July 19th 2013, the Portsmouth Police Department conducted a sobriety checkpoint on Lafayette Rd. southbound near Mirona Rd. The checkpoint, which was authorized by the Rockingham County Superior Court, screened drivers heading outbound on Lafayette Rd. near Mirona Rd. between 10:30 PM and 2:00AM. 219 drivers were screened and 1 adult was arrested. Assisting in the operation were members of the Portsmouth Police Explorer Post.
Bradley Birkenfeld (02-26-65) of P.O. Box 70 Rye Beach NH was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated, a misdemeanor.
Mr. Birkenfeld was released on $750 personal recognizance bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned on August 1st, 2013.
