Possibly Tainited Heroin Blamed for 3 OD's in 24 Hours

Police said anyone using heroin from a local source should use caution.

Portsmouth police on Wednesday issued a community alert after responding to three heroin overdoses over the course of 24 hours.

Police said the number of overdoses for that time period was unusually high.

"We ask everybody using heroin from a local source to use extreme caution," police Capt. Mike Schwartz said in a statement. "It is unknown if the drugs involved are atypically potent or tainted ... we also don’t know if the three overdoses are connected."

Schwartz said he was unable to release the condition of the three victims.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call Portsmouth police at 603-610-7434 or leave a tip with Seacoast Crime Stoppers.
