Rye Driver Charged After Portsmouth Crash

Portsmouth police have charged the woman with operating after suspension, breach of bail and conduct after an accident following the crash on Elwyn Road.

A Rye woman will be arraigned Monday on charges related to a July 11 accident in which she allegedly struck a telephone pole and collided into a fence at 250 Elwyn Road in Portsmouth. Police say she then fled the scene.

Portsmouth Police said Katherine Supple, 26, of 1359 Ocean Blvd., Rye, was later located and arrested. She was charged with operating after suspension, breach of bail and conduct after an accident.

A caller reported that they saw a driver walk away from the white 2001 Toyota Camry after it came to a stop on a lawn.

As officers combed the area looking for the driver, a witness said they saw a woman matching the description get into a black pickup truck, which sped away, according to police.

With assistance from the Rye Police Department, Portsmouth police said the accused driver was located and arrested.

She was being held without bail due to the breach of bail charge. She was out on bail for charges out of North Hampton for operating after suspension and Thornton for driving while intoxicated, police said.

Police said there were no signs of impairment when Supple was arrested in Rye.

The driver of the pickup truck could also face charges in the case.

No one was injured in the accident, which closed Elwyn Road for two hours July 11.
