Three People Hurt in Head-on Car Crash

Portsmouth firefighters extricated two of the accident victims with the "Jaws of Life"; all three people transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital with serious injuries.

Three people were seriously injured in a two-car, head-on crash on Sagamore Avenue on Monday night, and two of them had to be extricated with the Jaws of Life.

Portsmouth Fire Capt. Todd Germain said the accident occurred just before 8 p.m. on Sagamore Avenue, between South Street and Jones Avenue. One person was driving a Volvo sedan and the other two people were riding in a Suzuki vehicle, he said.

Portsmouth firefighters responded with an engine, ladder truck and two fire rescue ambulances, Germain said. The Rye Fire Department also sent an ambulance. The two people inside the Suzuki needed to be extricated from that vehicle with the Jaws of Life, Germain said.
