UNH Dorm Fire May Have Been Started by Someone Manufacturing Drugs

UNH Police said they discovered materials consistent with a manufacturing effort involving marijuana, volatile solvents and glassware.

University of New Hampshire Police are investigating a dormitory fire they say may have been started by someone attempting to manufacture drugs.

Around 10:15 p.m. Sunday, UNH Police said they received a report of an extinguished fire in Richardson Hall. Upon investigation, officers discovered materials consistent with a manufacturing effort involving marijuana, volatile solvents, and glassware. Criminal charges have not been filed, but the incident is under investigation. The student involved no longer lives on campus.

"I urge anyone with information about illicit drug activity in our community to contact the police department," Police Chief Paul Dean said. "This was a minor incident but it could have been much more serious. We will not tolerate this behavior on our campus and will work to keep every member of our campus safe."

Anyone with information about illicit drug activity is encouraged to contact the University of New Hampshire Police Department at 603-862-1427. Information can also be submitted anonymously utilizing the “Silent Witness” feature on the department’s website: http://www.unh.edu/upd/
