City to Sue Boarding House Owner

The city is planning to sue the owner of the Brewster Street boarding house for failure to comply with city ordinances.

"It is my anticipation that after we have an opportunity to marshal our evidence and consider legal theories, we will be bringing a lawsuit against the owner of the property," City Attorney Robert Sullivan said Wednesday. "It's being operated in a manner detrimental to the tenants who live in the building and also the residents who surround the building."

The City Council voted Monday not to renew the boarding house's permit after complaints from neighbors and reports of bed bugs in the facility.

Sullivan said the ultimate goal of the city's lawsuit is something that still has to be carefully considered.

"The only thing that's really fair to say is that the City Council wants to protect the tenants of the building," he said

Sullivan said he's not sure when the lawsuit might be filed, as "there are a lot of things going on at City Hall these days."
