Newmarket Town Councilor to Challenge Martha Fuller Clark

Phil Nazzaro announced he will run for state Senate District 21, which covers Durham, Lee, Madbury, Newfields, Newmarket, Newington and Portsmouth.

Phil Nazzaro, a Newmarket Town Councilor, has announced he will challenge state Sen. Martha Fuller Clark (D-Portsmouth) for District 21.

The district covers Durham, Lee, Madbury, Newfields, Newmarket, Newington and Portsmouth.

Nazzaro, a Republican and a reform advocate, is a West Point graduate and 10-year Army veteran, including a tour as a company commander in Afghanistan. He is a senior managing director with Teach for America.

Nazzaro's remarks in his announcement April 9:

"I’m running for State Senate to shake up the status quo of partisan bickering and to remind government of what it is supposed to be doing - representing you and me. I am running to be an advocate in the State House for both New Hampshire’s students and our next generation of entrepreneurs. I’m running to ensure fiscal sanity in Concord and remind them that when faced with tough choices, New Hampshire’s families have to prioritize their decisions and our government has to learn to do the same. At West Point, at Teach for America, and on the Newmarket Town Council, I’ve seen the difference passionate leaders can make. I’m ready to bring new energy, ideas and leadership to the State Senate."

"As a resident and a town councilor I have seen what happens when the state dumps obligations onto local property taxpayers, strips funding from school building aid and stifles innovation. The time has come for a different approach - we must prioritize spending, truly focus on education, and create an environment that encourages high-paying quality jobs here in New Hampshire."

"The New Hampshire seacoast is an example of what can happen when people of all parties and interests come together honestly as members of a community to foster progress and innovation. We must bring this forward thinking attitude to the senate and work on building common sense solutions for the taxpayers of District 21. I am a proud Concord outsider, and I stand ready to roll up my sleeves with Republicans, Democrats, and anyone else who wants to work to solve the challenges that lay before us while protecting our no sales tax and no income tax advantage."
