Portsmouth Fireworks Postponed Until July 5

Due to pending storms, the fireworks display at South Mill Pond are being postponed to the rain date, which is Saturday night.

Portsmouth fireworks originally scheduled for July 3 at South Mill Pond are being postponed due to the pending storms.

Portsmouth Recreation Tweeted out the news that the fireworks display will be postponed until Saturday, July 5. 

The city of Portsmouth will update and announce any additional changes amid weather and storm monitoring.

Portsmouth Police Chief Stephen J. Dubois has further announced parking restrictions related to the fireworks display on July 5. There will be no parking on these city streets on July 5 (with the exception of those residents only):

  • Parrott Avenue
  • Franklin Street
  • Junkins Avenue
  • Pickering Street
  • Mt. Vernon Street
  • Hunking Street
  • Pleasant Street
  • Gardner Street
  • South Street from Miller to Marcy
  • Gates Street
  • Richmond Street
  • Howard Street
  • Rogers Street
  • Elwyn Avenue
  • Edward Street
  • Sherburne Avenue
  • Livermore Street
  • Rockland Street
  • Wentworth Street
  • Kent Street
  • Melcher Street
  • Richards Avenue
  • Whidden Street

Vehicles will be towed from the South Mill Pond playground parking lot on Junkins Avenue beginning at 10:00 AM on July 5th, 2014 due to the close proximity of loaded fireworks tubes.

Vehicles parked on Parrott Avenue between Richards Avenue to Junkins Avenue will be towed beginning at 12:00 noon on July 5th, 2014. The tennis courts/basketball courts/playground areas and baseball areas will be closed by 12:00 noon on July 5th, 2014. Limited handicapped parking will be available at the Public Library. The Parking Garage will charge a flat $3.00 fee for parking during the hours of 5:00PM and 9:00PM on July 5th, 2014.

The Dog Park will be closed from 6:00 AM on Saturday July 5th, 2014 to 10:00 AM on Sunday, July 6th, 2014. Dog owners are reminded of the city ordinance forbidding dogs from any park where the Recreation Department holds scheduled programs. This includes Leary and Central Fields, South Playground and the Connie Bean Playground.
