When Will Portsmouth Middle School Reopen?

Portsmouth Middle School is set to reopen on schedule Monday after a pipe burst and flooded a section of the school.

The break happened in a sprinkler line Monday afternoon in the third floor girls' bathroom. Water flooded through the ceiling to the main office, according to Superintendent Ed McDonough.

The damage forced officials to cancel school Tuesday, giving students a jump on their Thanksgiving break.

Crews worked until midnight ripping out ruined sheet rock and drying the area, McDonough said.

He didn't provide a dollar figure on the cost of the damage.

He credited firefighters for quickly responding to the scene and getting the leak under control.

"It could have been a lot worse," McDonough said. "The Fire Department did an incredible job."
