From Colorado to Concord...

From sea to shining sea — well, almost — the machinations of the anti-gun crowd have been defeated — most recently, yesterday, right here in the "Live Free or Die" state.

From Colorado to Concord, NH, the Bloomberg Gang just can't seem to make it happen.

HB1589 was introduced in the House last month, and passed out of committee on a partisan vote of 10-8. Sponsored by some of the most anti-gun representatives in the General Court, if made law it would have required a federal background check on all firearms sales in New Hampshire.

It would also have made a criminal out of anyone who sold or gave a gun to a friend or family member without first asking permission from the government.

It was also completely unnecessary. New Hampshire law already requires that buyer and seller be acquainted when the transaction involves a firearm, and both buyer and seller must be New Hampshire residents. If these conditions are not met, under current law, the sale must be made through a licensed firearm dealer.

While providing a virtual wet-dream regime for gun-control proponents, gun-owners and pro-freedom folks in general recognized HB1589 for what it was: an infringement on the right to keep and bear arms, and an abuse of the right of all free people to peacefully dispose of their legally-owned property without interference from Nanny-Staters who think their latest bright idea is more important than your freedom.

And once more, the people rose up and said "No!"

HB1589 went down in flames by a vote of 242-118, dying a much-needed death when it reached the full House yesterday.

Clearly, New Hampshire's state representatives heard it loud and clear from their constituents to kill this bill. And that's precisely what they did: they either voted for freedom, or stayed home.

This isn't surprising. Across the nation state legislators are regularly being schooled by the voters, and some have had to learn the hard way that regardless of the party in power gun-control is a losing issue. Especially in an election year.

And just like when HB675 went down in flames recently, we see that regardless of party affiliation, it is the statist-minded, not the libertarian-minded, who are out of touch with the people of New Hampshire. Freedom-lovers have a good home here indeed!

Thank you to everyone who fought so hard against this bill, particularly the New Hampshire Firearms Coalition. And thank you to those representatives, of both parties, who had the moral courage to vote for freedom.
