Such Incredible Self-Obsession

The United States hasn't had a president this obsessed with himself since...has the US ever had a president as obsessed with himself as Barack H. Obama? FDR? Nixon? Bush II? All pale in comparison.

Throwing a characteristic tamper tantrum Friday after the House of Representatives voted on a measure to continue funding the federal government (boo!) while de-funding his mind-meltingly flawed healthcare law (yea!), commonly called "Obamacare", the President slithered out before a podium at a Ford plant in Kansas City to whine about the big mean Republicans.

"They're focused on politics; they're focused on trying to mess with me," Obama told the crowd.

Of course! What else could this possibly be about other than you, Mr. President?

House Speaker John Boehner had a different perspective: "Our message to the United States Senate is very simple: the American people don't want the government shut down, and they don't want Obamacare," he said.

Well, I for one would lose not one wink of sleep if the federal government shut down. Mark Twain said no one's life, liberty or property is safe so long as Congress is in session, and if by some miracle our congresscritters found themselves on a quick plane ride home and the President found himself alone with his mirror, that would suit me right down to the ground!

There were no shortage of Chicken Littles running around during the whole sequestration circus, but the sky never did fall. In fact, the cuts made thereby are more popular than ever.

But there is no doubt that most people don't want anything to do with Obamacare. Polling data has consistently shown that to be true. Small business owners in particular know that it will destroy them, which is why they are among its most vocal opponents. There is even a slight majority of Americans who support shutting down the government if it means de-funding Obamacare.

The sad reality that President Obama has to face is that most people just don't like his healthcare law. Watching him so desperately trying to sell it is a bit like watching a frazzled waitress pushing yesterday's soup -- it just ain't happening.

A man that fails so often to look even remotely presidential looks downright pathetic standing before a crowd of people crying, "They just don't like me!" Like a self-obsessed child, he pouts when he doesn't get his way.

UPDATE:

From Jim Signorile at The Sovereign Investor:

"Here’s a shocker. On Friday, another major Obamacare flaw came to light. According to The Wall Street Journal, the software purchased to run Obamacare’s health care exchanges, which cost the government more than $88 million, is unable to correctly calculate the amount of subsidies that an individual applicant is eligible for — and nobody seems to know how to fix it.

What else can possibly go wrong with this abomination of a law?

Here’s just a small sample of what we already know about the absurdly named Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act:

1) Instead of bending the cost-curve down, health care consumers in many states will find the average premium prices rise 30% or 40% next year.

2) The federal government is unprepared to protect Obamacare’s information-technology system from hackers and identity thieves.

3) Americans may lose their doctors. The Department of Health and Human Services recently posted this on Healthcare.gov: 'Depending on the plan you choose in the Marketplace, you may be able to keep your current doctor.'

4) There are 20 new or increased taxes in Obamacare.

5) The federal government’s own General Accounting Office reports Obamacare will increase the long-term federal deficit by $6.2 trillion.

6) A Heritage Foundation analysis found that Obamacare will force seniors to suffer higher out-of-pocket expenses over the next five years.

7) President Obama negotiated an exemption from Obamacare for members of Congress and their staff.

8) Three of the nation’s most influential union bosses (and Obama supporters) declared that Obamacare is poised to 'destroy the foundation of the 40-hour work week that is the backbone of the American middle class.'

9) A Gallup poll found that more than 40% of small businesses have frozen hiring because of Obamacare.

10) The employer mandate requiring employers with 50 or more employees to provide health coverage has been postponed until after the 2014 election. I wonder why?

The list goes on … but the point has been made.

In the run-up to the passage of Obamacare, the president told us that his new law would cut the cost of our health care, would not increase the deficit, would not limit our choice of doctors or health plans and would create jobs. None of that was true.

The time has come to end this charade. The time to defund Obamacare is now.
