Proposal Would Name Softball Field After Tony Rahn

Rahn died this summer.

City officials proposed naming the Pease softball field after Tony Rahn, the founder of the Portsmouth Girls Softball Association who died this summer.

The City Council will review the plan at its regular meeting tonight.

The Portsmouth Recreation Board recommended that the council name the field after Rahn, who helped develop the softball league as a coach and umpire.

"(The) Rahn family thought this would be very appropriate," city Recreation Director Rus Wilson wrote in a letter to the council.

Rahn was also a physical education teacher at Dondero Elementary School and Newington Elementary School, according to his obituary. He also helped develop the Portsmouth Elementary Basketball League.

The council meets tonight at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
