I'm Proud of My Votes for President Obama

After the abject humiliation of the George W. Bush presidency and the disaster it was for both the country and the Republican Party, rightists suffer hysterical amnesia to forget the Bush record and call President Obama the worst president ever.

President Obama has done a fine job of steering the United States through some pretty rough waters despite the efforts of his opponents to wrench control the helm and steer the ship of state onto the rocks so that they can then blame him.

  • He prevented the Great Recession from becoming the Second Great Depression.
  • He passed healthcare reform.
  • He ended the war in Iraq.
  • He has overseen 52 consecutive months of job creation.
  • He rescued the U.S. auto industry.
  • He oversaw Wall Street reform.
  • He has far more than doubled the Dow Jones ratings since he first took office.
  • He got bin Laden.
  • He has started no new wars and has kept us out of protracted foreign entanglements.
  • He is ending the war in Afghanistan.
  • He's not putting ground troops back into Iraq.
  • He ended the Bush torture policies.
  • He has not added a single new detainee to Gitmo.
  • He ended Don't Ask; Don't Tell.
  • He has brought Iran to the bargaining table over their nuclear programs.
  • He has decimated the top leadership of the original al-Qaeda central.
  • He boosted automobile fuel efficiency standards.

I think more could have been done on the economy, but partisan opposition from the Republican Party in Congress had more interest in blocking progress in order to unfairly blame a Democrat in the White House.

Also:

  • He is the first African American president ever.
  • He has a blended African and Arabian name.

Despite those two foregoing:

  • In 2008, he defeated Arizona's U.S. Senator John McCain in the contest for the White House.
  • He beat former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney in the presidential election of 2012.
  • He'd probably win again in 2016 if he wasn't constitutionally prevented from running for a third term.

Voters are given choices in every election.  They chose Obama twice, and I helped each time.  Am I embarrassed about it?  Does it look like it?

My name is Stephen D. Clark, and I approve this president.  I bet I'll also approve the next one.
