Right-wing Hatred for American Workers

While this blog post is largely personal, what's included in part of its message is a peek into how rightists feel about people like me in the American workforce market who are being helped right now at this very moment by Obamacare.  My job, the one I've had for 15 years, went from providing 50% employer support for a family healthcare plan to not offering any health insurance at all.  Long before Obamacare became law, my job's health benefits package was declining swiftly and sharply.

Obamacare is helping me now.  What's the right-wing's reaction to that?  "You're a loser."

I've been having a long-term, nasty back-and-forth with a "jpf2361."  It isn't a pretty thing, but it is instructive at times.  Here's an example of a personal attack the jpf22361 thinks is appropriate to use against me that reflects a broader rightist mentality: "I just told the truth about your Suckling [sic] off the Federal [sic] Teat [sic] because your [sic] too lazy to get a job that provides Medical [sic] and Dental [sic] Benefits [sic]."  It's referring to the fact that Obamacare subsidizes personally purchased health insurance, depending on income.

We already knew that the right hates public employees, but now it's no longer good enough for them that people have jobs in the private marketplace.  Since Obamacare has become law, we have to have jobs with good benefits or else we're somehow morally deficient.  Now they spit on Americans like me with American jobs that don't offer health benefits.  They won't blame the employers for offering the jobs.  They'll just blame the workers for taking them.  They would even let us continue to die at higher rates due to lack of affordable health insurance if they could only just get their way with repealing Obamacare.

That's why I'll never vote Republican.  The Republican Party is the party for the right, and I know for a fact that the right hates me just for being an American worker.  The evidence is right before my eyes in the things that this "jpf2361" writes.  Its opinions didn't evolve in a vacuum.

But what is a "jpf2361?"  I don't know, so I'm forced by protocol to call it an "it."  It doesn't live up to my concept of manliness, but I can't assume it's not male because to assume as much would be an insult to women.  It must be genderless.

My concept of manliness includes standing up for what you believe in.  The jpf-thing won't do that.  It's an it.

Now it's not necessarily so bad to be anonymous online.  Plenty of people have their reasons for not wanting to be in the limelight for their opinions.  Okay.  Sure, let them announce their opinions - not that they'll carry any weight.  Who will take seriously the opinion of someone not proud enough to own it?  Not many.

I don't really have a problem with people posting anonymously.  What offends my sense of fairness is when anonymous posters launch personal attacks against people who aren't anonymous.  I think it's cowardly.  They have the protection of anonymity.  People who use their real names don't.  That's an uneven match.

I don't really have a problem with personal attacks, either.  Go ahead and attack me personally.  Just have the decency to do it under your own real name.  That's what I do.  I myself launch personal attacks from time to time.  Maybe it's not the best way to go about things, but at least I take responsibility for it.

If one anonymous poster wants to attack another anonymous poster, have at it.  At least they're meeting each other on equal terms.

And that's my beef.  People should meet each other on a level playing field.  Those who refuse and insist on being nasty with the protection of their anonymity are being cowardly.

This jpf-thing has consistently attacked me with its special protection of anonymity.  I've called it a coward numerous times for doing so.  That really bugged it, so it challenged me to meet it in person.  It assumed that I would refuse.

I agreed to meet it on the condition that it leveled the playing field by abandoning its anonymity.  It refused to do that.

Four times I've either agreed to meet it or challenged it to meet me.  It has consistently refused.  The last time, I went ahead and said that I would meet it while it could still retain its anonymity.  I specified a time and place.  What a surprise: It refused again.

So now I've said "name the time and place."  That's giving two big concessions: An anonymous meeting on its own terms.

At first there was silence.  What's happened instead is that the jpf-thing has deleted many of its comments in the conversation leading up to that.  Finally, after consistently pushing, I got the flat-out "no" I suspected would be coming.

Here's my record of the conversation.  (I copied and pasted it into a text box and saved it as a draft, and I've made screen shots, too.)  Notice how it consistently weasels out of what started as its own challenge to meet me:

As of right now, I've had no commitment from the jpf-thing to a meeting.  I won't be at McDonald's tomorrow waiting for what I believe won't happen when I could be out scouting photo locations during my hour-long lunch break instead.  Name the time and place, and I'll be there.

Name it, jpf.  I'll be there.  You know I will, too, because I'm just crazy enough to actually keep my word on it.
