City Man Who Robbed Same Bank Twice Facing Prison Time

Union Leader reports that federal prosecutors hope to have Timothy Burke of Portsmouth sentenced to 3 1/2 years.

A Portsmouth man who police say robbed the same bank twice in one week in 2011 before heading to Las Vegas could face up to 41 months in prison, if federal prosecutors have their way. The Union Leader reported Friday that the pre-sentencing investigation report for Timothy Burke, 30, of Portsmouth shows probation officials are recommending a 51- to 63-month sentence. The newspaper also reported that Burke is seeking less jail time so he can seek treatment for his drug addiction. According to Portsmouth Police, Burke allegedly robbed $2,280 when he robbed the bank on Oct. 29 and then robbed another $3,260 when he returned to the same bank on Nov. 4. Bank Robbery Suspect Waives Probable Cause

People's United Bank robbery suspect Timothy Burke waives probable cause on felony charge, but pleads not guilty to misdemeanor.

A Portsmouth man charged with robbing the People's United Bank twice in less than one week waived probable cause to two felony armed robbery charges, but pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor. According to Portsmouth District Court officials, Timothy Burke, 29 of 55 Columbia St., Apt. 3., Portsmouth, will have his case heard in Rockingham County Superior Court for the two felony charges and Burke will appear at a date to be scheduled in district court for the misdemeanor charge. He is currently being held at the Rockingham County Jail in Brentwood on $100,000 cash bail. According to the affidavit filed by Portsmouth Police Detective Sgt. A Portsmouth man charged with robbing the People's United Bank twice in less than one week is scheduled to be back in court in January. According to Portsmouth District Court officials, Timothy Burke, 29 of 55 Columbia Street, Apt. 3. in Portsmouth, is scheduled to have a probable cause hearing on Jan. 25, 2012 at 8:30 a.m. He is charged with two felony counts of armed robbery. He is currently being held at the Rockingham County Jail in Brentwood on $100,000 cash bail. Burke defense lawyer, Attorney Alan Cronheim, had requested a continuance of Burke's probable cause hearing so he could have more time to prepare his client's defense, and the request was granted by Judge Sawato Gardner. The probable cause hearing for a Portsmouth man charged with robbing the People's United Bank twice was continued this morning in Portsmouth District Court. Timothy Burke, 29 of 55 Columbia Street, Apt. 3. in Portsmouth, was scheduled to appear in court this morning after he was arraigned on two counts of armed robbery on Nov. 17. He is currently being held at the Rockingham County Jail in Brentwood and court officials said this morning a new date for the hearing has not been set yet. Police Arrest Bank Robbery Suspect

Timothy Burke is charged with committing two armed robberies at the Peoples United Bank on Oct. 29 and Nov. 4.

Portsmouth Police detectives arrested a Portsmouth man late Wednesday night and charged him with committing two armed robberies at the Peoples United Bank within the last two weeks. Police had issued an arrest warrant for Timothy Burke, 29, of 55 Columbia St., Apt. 3 a week ago. He is charged with two class A felony counts of armed robbery for holding up the Islington Street bank on Oct. 29 and on Nov. 4, according to Portsmouth Police Capt. Corey MacDonald, the chief of the detectives division. MacDonald said Burke was believed to have been in Las Vegas, Nev., this past week before he was arrested on Wednesday night. MacDonald said police arrested Burke on Oct. 16 and he was out on bail for possession of heroin and marijuana before the …
