The new Connie Bean Recreation Center will host the Father/Daughter Valentine's Dance on Saturday night.
The Father/Daughter Valentine's Dance will be held this Saturday at the new Connie Bean Recreation Center after it was postponed last weekend due to the Blizzard of 2013. As Portsmouth dads dance the night away with their little girls, it is a good bet that plenty of keepsake photos and videos will be taken to preserve the moment and Portsmouth Patch would love to share them. If last year's Father/Daughter Valentine's Dance held at the former Connie Bean Recreation Center on Daniel Street is any indication, this Saturday's event will be just as memorable. Help Portsmouth Patch compile a cool Father/Daughter Valentine's Dance community album so you can share your photos with your friends and neighbors. This will be sweeter than any box of …

“Where’s Pa Going with that Axe?” The Enduring Quality of Children’s Classics By Anita Silvey Courtesy of James Patterson's Read Kiddo Read Foundation The opening line of E. B. White’s Charlotte’s Web— “Where’s Pa going with that axe?”—has now been read by adults to eager young listeners for more than 60 years. Madeleine L’Engle’s A Wrinkle in Time and Ezra Jack Keats’s The Snowy Day have been picked up with enthusiasm for more than 50 years. For 75 years, parents have shared The Hobbit, and this year Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are turns 50. These books and others like them (Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Virginia Lee Burton’s Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel, and L. M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables) bring …

Valentine's Day may be over after Feb. 14, but not at the Seacoast Repertory Theatre. As a special post Valentine's Day treat, the Bow Street theater will present "The Vagina Monologues," by Eve Ensler presented by Back Alley Productions, according to Seacoast Repertory Theatre officials. "This cutting edge and razor sharp show brings to life a series of monologues from woman all over the globe. This production is an annually celebrated and fantastically touching theatre piece that helps raise awareness (and funds!) for domestic abuse against woman. This show is not to be missed!" reads the Seacoast Repertory Theatre's Web site. Proceeds from this weekend's performances will benefit Sexual Assault Support Services, A Safe Place, and V-DAY…

- VALENTINE'S DAY GUIDE

Wednesday, February 8, 2012
There are few places in New Hampshire like Portsmouth that offer couples and sweethearts so many ways to celebrate Valentine's Day. Regardless if one desires a robust bouquet of red roses, sweet chocolates, Valentines Day cards or romantic dinners for two, Portsmouth has all of these things and more. The city also has its share of chocolatiers who create hand-made Valentine's Day chocolates. For example, on Saturday night, the Connie Bean Recreation Center will host its 18th annual Father/Daughter Valentine's Day Dance. Portsmouth's Ed Gerhard will also perform a romantic Valentine's Day concert on Sunday night at the Seacoast Repertory Theatre. Outside of Paradiza on Penhallow Street, the store's sign reads, "Cupid lives. He's here." For …
