Portsmouth Schools to Hold Flu Clinic

Portsmouth students and staff in Portsmouth, Rye, Newington, Greenland and New Castle can receive flu vaccine shots on Monday at New Franklin School.

The Portsmouth Schools will offer a second flu vaccination clinic for students and staff on Monday at New Franklin School.

Barbara Pamboukes, the Portsmouth Schools nursing department head, wrote in an e-mail Saturday morning the second flu clinic is being held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. for students and staff in SAU's 52 and 50, which includes Portsmouth, Greenland, Newington, Rye and New Castle. She said the flu vaccination shots are free. The Portsmouth Schools held the first flu clinic on Oct. 19, 2012.

"As this has been an especially difficult year with student illness and influenza, Portsmouth School Nurses will offer a second influenza clinic to be held at New Franklin School in Portsmouth," Pamboukes wrote. "It is not too late to get an influenza vaccine."

During the current flu season, New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services officials have reported 25 influenza deaths. Portsmouth Regional Hospital officials have also reported widespread flu cases in the emergency room and have implemented .
