Local Restaurateur, Phelps Dieck, to Open New BRGR Bar Restaurant at Portwalk Place in Portsmouth, N.H.

Portsmouth, N.H. – Discovering a demand for a local pub with a modern twist, renowned restaurateur Phelps Dieck, original chef/creator and owner of Portsmouth’s Brazo, will soon launch a simple yet upscale new restaurant downtown called BRGR Bar.  Scheduled to open in November, BRGR Bar will serve an inspired style of creative burgers, accompanied by original salads, hand-cut fries with pick-your-own sauces, and a vast selection of local craft beers, wines and even “adult” milkshakes. The restaurant will be located at Portwalk Place, on the street level of the Marriott Residence Inn.

“The Portsmouth culinary scene is so diverse, eclectic and wonderful. I wanted to create a new restaurant that not only fit well within the community, but also captured the authentic aspects of a local pub, with an infusion of modern and cool – in both the setting and the menu offerings,” said Dieck.  “We’ve kept the menu items simple, using all locally-sourced and organic ingredients, and added distinctive touches that will set us apart.”

The BRGR Bar menu’s eleven featured burgers are anything but traditional, with items such as Braised Short Rib Burger; or the Burger Au Poivre with roasted tomatoes, horseradish mayo, and bacon; or the Mornay Burger with house cured ham, mornay sauce, and a fried egg; or the Buffalo Avocado, Greek, Salmon or Pomegranate Burger rounding it out. Signature salads will also be featured, all heaping with organic and locally sourced greens.  Diners can complete their burger orders with hand-cut fries in sea salt, truffle, or garlic parmesan varieties and accompanied with specialty dipping sauces. All of BRGR Bar’s meats, fish, and vegetables will be hormone and antibiotic free.

Dieck said BRGR Bar patrons can “chill out” with a milkshake “frappe” in vanilla, chocolate, espresso and other seasonal flavors.   “What might be our most fun menu items are delicious, old-fashioned milkshakes.  And for those who want to kick their shakes up a notch - we can add specialty liquors to create ‘adult’ versions.  We anticipate they’ll be a big hit with our customers!”

“There really isn’t anything like BRGR Bar or Portwalk Place in Portsmouth and we are very excited to be opening soon,” added Dieck, who plans to offer 40 outdoor seats and 53 seats indoors, along with a large bar.  “This restaurant will appeal to the traditional Portsmouth foodie, as well as visitors and professionals coming downtown.  With Portwalk Place’s ideal location – strolling distance to the waterfront and all the boutique shops, theaters, art galleries, parks and everything else downtown Portsmouth has to offer - we are hoping to attract a wide variety of customers looking for authentic yet creative cuisine.  I am thankful to the team of professionals helping me with this project and keeping it moving forward on schedule!”
