Cindy and Phillip Bufithis wanted to be the first customers at The Rosa after they had dined at the former Rosa for so many years.

When the doors opened at 4 p.m., the York, Maine couple got their wish. Soon after they were joined by several other patrons who rediscovered the Brunswick bar and dined on the Rosa's new Italian menu.

Mike McLane, the Rosa's general manager, said he and his staff were delighted with the response in what he described as an "electric atmosphere."

The Rosa can seat up to 190 people and employs 60 full and part time staff. New owners Joe Barone and Mark McNabb spent more than $1.6 million to purchase the restaurant after it closed in 2012 after serving generations of Seacoast area families for 86 years. All of the restaurant's seating is located on the first floor. The second and third floors are now luxury apartments.

Cindy Bufithis said she always enjoyed bringing her family to the former Rosa's because of the great food and relaxed atmosphere. She feels they will be able to do this again with her three children and six grandchildren.

Phillip Bufithis said he believes the new Rosa will allow him "to come and relax and to feel confident we will get a good meal at a reasonable price."

Like the Bufithis' there were many other former Rosa patrons who couldn't wait to experience the newly renovated dining room and lounge area.

The Rosa's menu features many affordable dishes that include an array of pasta dishes and lasagna's that range from $14 to $18.

There are also a wide selection of specialized pizza's in the same price range. The menu also features an extensive selection of steak, pork, chicken and seafood dishes that are accompanied by a comprehensive wine and beer list.

The Rosa is currently open from 4 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. seven days a week and will eventually be open for lunch at 11:30 a.m. Reservations are highly recommended. To view The Rosa's menu and to see more information, visit www.therosa.com.
