Inside Smuttynose's New Seacoast Brewery

The craft brewery is also building a restaurant.

The construction of Smuttynose Brewery's new home is ramping up.

The craft brewery, currently located in Portsmouth, is moving its operation to Towle Farm Road in Hampton.

The $16 million project will include a restaurant. Smuttynose received a $500,000 loan from the Community Development Finance Authority to help with the expansion.

Owner Peter Egelston said he expects the brewery will be up and running by November. The restaurant, which will have about 95 indoor seats and another 40 in an outdoor patio area, could open sometime after the New Year.

Egelston took Patch on a tour of the project this week. See photos above.

Egelston is proud of several sustainable aspects of the project. Those include a bioswale to manage stormwater runoff, a biodigester tank, and solar tubes for lighting, among others.

"It's a nice way for us to close the loop on our waste stream," Egelston said.

There will be a farm, complete with an apple orchard and a beekeeping area, Egelston said. He plans to use some of the food grown at the farm in his restaurant.
