New Restaurant Slated for Old Green Monkey Site

LoMo will open on Oct. 10 in the former Green Monkey space.

LoMo, which stands for Local Movement, is scheduled to open at the former Green Monkey restaurant on Pleasant Street right before Columbus Day Weekend.

Dan Dumont, LoMo's chef and owner, and some of his staff were busy renovating their new dining room and lounge area on Wednesday afternoon. When completed, Dumont said LoMo will have seating for 70 patrons and feature a menu that will have mostly ingredients supplied by farmers and fishermen from across New England.

"Everything we are making is artisan handcrafted," said Dumont. That includes not only the entrees on the menu, but also the dining room tables and chairs that he said were made by local craftspeople, he added.

In a prepared statement, Dumont said LoMo will be open six days a week and open for brunch on Sundays.

"It is our goal to have a welcoming dining room that is comfortable, intriguing, and fun for all while exhibiting the utmost in hospitality," he said.

Dumont said the restaurant will also feature a daily roast that will range from locally raised chickens, pigs and fresh caught sea bass that patrons can enjoy. He also said there will be a strong emphasis on providing charcuterie, small plates and handmade pastas.

According to the restaurant's new menu, the charcuterie will feature items such as cured duck chorizo, proscuitto de parma, mortadella, blood salami and jagerwurst. The charcuterie case will be displayed in the dining room.

Some of the entrees include dishes like carmelized diver scallops with apple puree, lardons, cauliflower and curry for $30 and suckling pig with macomber turnip, farm carrots, and spiced jus also for $30.

Dumont said Wednesday they will also feature handcrafted cocktails, local microbrew beers and have a unique wine list. The menu will also change with the seasons, he added.

According to the Huffington Post, farm-to-table restaurants are a growing trend nationwide as more restaurants want to incorporate more food items produced by local farmers. Dining patrons are also seeking out more of these type of eateries.

According to the city building inspector's permit, Dumont is carrying out $15,000 worth of renovations. He said LoMo will soon launch a new web site.
