Gallery Talk: Bellamy’s Masonic and Fraternal Work

Aimee E. Newell, Director of Collections at the Scottish Rite Masonic Museum & Library
in Lexington, Massachusetts, will focus on John Haley Bellamy’s Masonic
and fraternal work.  She will provide a brief overview of American Freemasonry and explore why Bellamy pursued these designs.  Her talk will be illustrated with examples from the Museum & Library collection.

includes lectures by authors, curators and artists who have contributed

to this retrospective. Widely considered the pinnacle of American woodcarving, eagles by John Haley Bellamy (1836-1914) rank among such hallowed national symbols as the Statue of Liberty, the White House, and
Old Glory. The exhibit is open from April 4 through October 3.
